Fun
Fact: Their video for "New Slang" painstakingly recreated covers
of such classic punk and alt. pop record sleeves as Husker Du's
Zen Arcade and the Replacement's Let It Be.
Obligatory
Critical Claptrap (OCC): If there's a devil of pop harvesting
the souls of past masters when their meters expire, the likes of
Lennon/McCartney, Ray Davies, and Brian Wilson will have to make
room on their demonic village green for The Shins and the Faustian
deals this crafty quartet has surely signed off on. Though their
debut long player, Oh, Inverted World, could easily be described
as timeless (in that 1966 way), there exists an ingenuity and resourcefulness
among its eleven tracks that could have only conspired at such a
time as our own.
Telling
Lyric: "Held to the past too aware of the pending Chill as the
dawn breaks and finds us up for sale. Enter the fog another low
road descending Away from the cold lust, your house and summertime."
