Obligatory Critical Claptrap (OCC): YYY's Karen O, Nick Zinner and Brian Chase are New Yorkers. But then again, aren't we all? The difference between us and them, however, is that they make jubilant and minimalist bombastic ditties only comparable to such New York no-wave forbearers as DNA, Blondie and the Heartbreakers. The rest of us watch. And we like it. And then we dance. As front woman of this casually affirmative trio, Karen O might be a more liberated Cyndi Lauper. As addled guitarist, Nick Z might be a more punk Kid Congo Powers (with whom
he's been caught strumming). As perc man, Brian C might be a pharmacist, dispensing little neat packages of fits and starts.
